Mr. Baliram Siew discusses sustainability issues related to the highway being built in Trinidad and Tobago from Debe to Mon Desir. In his own words he shows how this highway will displace families and infrastructure, alter the movement of water from multiple areas, and alter livelihoods. As he sees it, this project is not about development. The place will simply get mash up.
Mas maker Peter Minshall has used storytelling and models in a 5 minute video that links this highway with impacts in other places also. Not through the water or community theme, but through the theme of materials – the building materials being transported by many many many trucks from one area far away to fill in the lagoon that Mr. Siew speaks about so clearly.
